Findhorn
and Mr. Intrepid
Carol has been enjoying an autobiography
called Memoirs of an Ordinary Mystic.
It is about (and by) Dorothy Maclean, who was one of the founding
members of Findhorn, the spiritual community in Scotland known for it's
close connection with nature spirits. Much to Carol's surprise, Ms.
Maclean has a connection to another individual in history Carol has
enjoyed reading about in A Man Called Intrepid. This
"Mr. Intrepid" was a Canadian-born British Secret Service agent whom
the James Bond character was inspired by. He was Ms. Maclean's boss in
her younger years. Carol highly recommends both books as excellent
reads.

"God is
Greater"
Tales
from the Yucatan Jungle
When Carol is
the keynote speaker at weekend spiritual retreats, she often invites
participants to join her at sunrise to greet the rising sun. In When We
Were Gods, she wrote about her hypnosis sessions, in which
spiritual
guides appeared. They said they had a message for humankind and that
"the root of our undoing was that we live our lives as if we are
greater than God and the antidote was to greet the rising sun saying,
'God is greater,' three times." This photo was taken at Asilomar,
California, in November 2005.
When
Carol was looking for evidence of the information she’d received in her
hypnosis, she travelled to Yucatan, Mexico… and fell in love with the
area. She has been back may times over the years and met many wonderful
people. One of those individuals is Kristine Ellingson, an American who
went to Yucatan in search of herself and ended up staying there.
Despite being tall and blonde, Kristine has fully integrated into a
Mayan community, and she has been married to a Mayan man for 20 years.
Kristine has written a book
about her adventures,
touching on what brought her to go to Yucatan in the first place, as
well as the things she’s experienced and had to learn about living
Mayan. As the description of the book says “Kristine allows readers to
see a world seldom seen by tourists.”

Let's
Get Gardening
Connecting
with Nature Spirits
Spring is
in the air. Why not show your appreciation for nature and your
willingness to work with nature and nature spirits by growing
something? There's a
wonderful book about small
space and container gardening called Sugar
Snaps
and Strawberries by Andrea Bellamy. Even if you have
more
space for gardening the book has all sorts of good information in it,
from
how to effectively compost to making and using cold frames. It also
has descriptions and growing information for many commonly grown foods
at the back of the book. You can get additional information from
the author's
blog, Heavy Petal.
As
Carol mentioned in her book, When We Were Gods, growing
plants as well as connecting with and respecting nature and nature
spirits is very important. As she wrote in Chapter 14 of the book, Pan
told her "More people should garden. As much as possible, grow things,
show an attempt to work with nature. Natural forces want to work with
us..." A great resource for learning more about working with nature is
the Findhorn Foundation, www.findhorn.org.
There are also some great books about the foundation, including Flight into Freedom and Beyond: The
Autobiography of the Co-Founder of the Findhorn Community.
